This daily habit may be making 3 out of 10 Americans more likely to get dementia.

Dementia is a painful and sad illness for both the person who has it and the people who love and care for them. Even though Alzheimer’s disease and other brain diseases are partly caused by genes, there are things you can do to at least lower your risk of getting them or keep them from getting worse. Even though it’s scary, some people do something every day that hurts them and raises their risk of dementia and a lot of other health problems.
This daily habit may be making about 30% of Americans more likely to get dementia.

Ten percent of American people vape, which is bad for their brain health.

A new study from Manchester Metropolitan University suggests that vaping may be directly linked to dementia, heart disease, and kidney failure.
To find out how vaping affected people’s health, researchers looked at people between the ages of 18 and 45 who were about as fit as the subjects.

The Mirror reported that people who vaped seemed to have damage to the walls of their vessels in the heart. This meant that their arteries couldn’t open up, which could be a sign of future heart problems. Participants who vaped also had irritated blood vessels. The lead author of the study, Dr. Maxime Boidin, Ph.D., said this was because nicotine, propylene glycol, and veggie glycerin are all ingredients in vapes.
Can vaping lead to dementia?

There needs to be more research, but vaping has been linked to bad brain health in the past.

A study published in February 2020 found that mice that were exposed to both cigarette smoke and electronic cigarette smoke had reduced cognitive spatial learning abilities and memory functions. This could be because the brains were inflamed and under oxidative stress. Another study, published in 2021, found that vaping hurt short-term memory and caused inflammation. A third study, published in 2024, found a link between vaping and cognitive problems in young people.
Is vaping less dangerous than smoking?

A while ago, many people thought that vaping might be safer than smoking. But as more study comes in, experts are now sure that this is not true: vaping is very bad for you.

What we found is that vaping is just as dangerous as smoking. At the start of the study, I also thought vaping was better for you than smoking, Dr. Boidin told The Mirror. There are more vapers these days because people don’t think it’s a big deal. The truth will shock a lot of people.
Dr. Boidin says that the ease of smoking is one of the things that makes it so dangerous and addicting.

People who smoke usually go outside and light up. When they’re done with one, they have to light up another to keep going. With vapes, on the other hand, you keep going, and it’s harder to keep track of how many puffs you’ve had, he said. It’s much easier to vape continuously because you can do it in places where smoking might be less acceptable.
