Australia Issues Graphic Warnings for Vaping
According to stories by CityNews and News, Australia will force producers of tobacco products to post graphic health warnings on e-cigarettes as well. Manufacturers of cigarette and vape packs have until April 1, 2024, to implement new, “repulsive” health warnings. Retailers will have an additional three months to replace their inventory while the new warning labels are progressively implemented.
The nation’s federal parliament passed a law on December 7th that includes provisions to prevent vaping and smoking. The law, among other things, modernises the health warnings on cigarette packaging, harmonises the style and look of cigarette filters, and restricts tobacco advertising on vapour goods.
Australia previously declared that single-use vapes would be prohibited as of the beginning of 2024. Additionally, it will be unlawful to import or distribute vapes that don’t meet the requirements set forth by the medical authorities as of March 1. Therapeutic vapes would remain a legal prescription option for physicians and nurses looking to assist smokers in quitting.
The new smoking regulations, according to Health Minister Mark Butler, will save lives.
He told the legislature, “Tobacco has cost us countless lives in this country and caused immeasurable harm.” “We cannot watch as a new generation of people is seduced into addiction and suffers the severe health, financial, and social repercussions.”
Twenty percent of Australians between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four vape, while one in seven between the ages of fourteen and seventeen use the product.
