More than 2000 nicotine vapes are seized in South Australia as part of a health blitz
Over 2000 vapes have been seized by health inspectors during an eight-week crackdown on the illicit selling of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes in South Australia.
After only five weeks, authorities have already checked 152 firms and seized 2800 vapes as part of their effort to disrupt the supply chain.
A total of 1600 seized vapes had their nicotine content verified in a lab.
The inspections follow the South Australian government’s announcement in June of a crackdown on unlawful vape sales, threatening firms who fail to notify that they are selling nicotine products with a $10,000 fine.
These statistics, in my opinion, are concerning and demonstrate the prevalence of nicotine vapes in the population, according to the health minister.
One company is facing a $1000 charge after being found selling illicit vapes during the operation. Seven firms received $500 fines.
Small convenience stores seem to be the biggest offender so far, according to SA Health.
