The federal health minister announced Australia’s most major tobacco and vaping control measures in ten years earlier this year after alleging that the tobacco industry was attempting to produce a “new generation of nicotine addicts.”
The government said that it would prohibit the importation of vaping items available without a prescription and establish minimum quality requirements for vaporizers, including limitations on flavours, colours, and other substances.
The incident on Thursday occurs as a publication in the most recent issue of the journal, BMJ Tobacco Control, reports that the majority of Australian parents surveyed (more than 2,000) support rules governing e-cigarettes to better safeguard kids and teenagers.
Researchers at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, who conducted the study, discovered that support for limitations was generally consistent across demographic groups.
79% of those polled supported limiting public usage, 86% supported limiting promotion, and 87% supported limiting e-cigarette packaging.
The 2019 Royal Children’s Hospital National Child Health Poll included a survey that the respondents, who were chosen by The Online Research Unit, completed.
