Common side effects of vaping include dry mouth and coughing. Although the long-term side effects of vaping are not well known, Juul and other e-cigarettes have serious health problems such as severe lung injury, attacks, nicotine addiction, addiction, increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

Common e-cigarette side effects include:

  • Burning or scratchy feeling in mouth, lips and throat
  • Cough
  • Dizziness
  • Dry/sore mouth and throat
  • Headache
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sleepiness
  • Weakened taste

Serious vaping side effects may include:

  • Nicotine addiction
  • Severe lung injury
  • Seizures
  • Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP)
  • Popcorn lung
  • Strokes
  • Heart attacks

EVALI – Deadly Lung Injury:

EVALI (e-cigarette or vaping, an acronym for product-related lung injury) is the most serious side effect of vaping. Symptoms can mimic influenza and other respiratory or digestive conditions. Hospitalized patients often require a ventilator to breathe, and some die after discharge.

On February 18, 2020, the CDC reported a total of 2,807 hospitalizations, including 68 who died in EVALI since it was first identified in 2019.

Although the number of EVAL cases has declined since the peak of EVAL cases in 2019, healthcare providers are associated with vaping, according to a 2021 review published in Virchows Archives by Maxwell L. Smith et al. You need to be vigilant when investigating health problems.

Popcorn Lung and COP

Although rare, vaping causes severe respiratory problems and lung disease. Two of these are obstructive bronchiolitis, also known as popcorn lung, and idiopathic organizing pneumonia (COP), formerly known as obstructive bronchiolitis (BOOP), which organizes pneumonia. The lungs of popcorn affect the bronchioles, the smallest airways of the lungs. According to the National Institutes of Health, it can cause damage and inflammation that can lead to scarring that blocks the bronchioles. It is related to diacetyl, a chemical used to flavor some food and e-cigarette liquids. Like the lungs of popcorn, COP affects the bronchioles. However, it also causes inflammation of the alveoli (the air sacs at the ends of the bronchioles) and the walls of the small bronchi.

E-liquids and Seizures

Until recently, researchers have associated seizures with e-cigarette nicotine. However, new evidence suggests that other chemicals, contaminants or ingredients in arc juice, such as vitamin E acetate, can cause seizures.  More data on seizures and other neurological effects is needed, and researchers are urging healthcare professionals and the general public to report the harmful experiences of e-cigarettes.

Vaping Can be Harmful for Adolescents

According to the CDC, the use of e-cigarettes is safe for children, teens, and young adults. Because e-cigarettes contain nicotine, young people may be more likely to smoke in the future.

In addition, nicotine can impair brain development. According to the CDC, one Juul capsule contains the same amount of nicotine as a pack of 20 regular cigarettes. Some of the ingredients in Ark Juice are safe to ingest, but cannot be inhaled and can damage the lungs. A 2021 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that the use of e-cigarettes was associated with an increased incidence of dry cough and wheezing.
